I
got a real workout stacking my 10 tons of sand to a height of 13 feet
(4m) and it was the tallest piece of the solo event. Luckily, our packup day is not on the clock.
The actual sculpting was done in a
22 hour period over 3 days.
This piece evolved somewhat, as I moved towards a memory triggered by a smell... in this case, a rose. Once I got on that track, I tried to bring in ideas related to flowers. A passionate kiss, a tropical evening, and some ancient writings. I did feel that I could have included more, but once again, time restrictions brought me back to reality. I am happy with the spiritual nature of the piece and it was a great feeling to be awarded the 3rd prize in the solo event. 2nd went to Feng Xig from China and Guy Beauregard won the top prize of $5,000. Paul Dawkins from Ontario won the Peoples' Choice Award, and Jan Selen from Germany the Artists' Choice. |
