David and I came up with
this one as we were working. From a starting point about a rescue it
evolved to become a statement about modern life. We decided to show a
family in turmoil due to the father working too much and drowning in a
sea of paperwork.
The sculpture was very well received by the public, thanks to the emotional feel and action suggested by the blowing curtains and hair. I feel that we are getting better at detail work and creating strong figures. It felt good to be able to put together the whole story on short notice, though we do feel that we could benefit from some planning. We will try to have our idea and plan ready ahead of time next year. It was an honour to
receive the People's Choice award in addition to another 3rd prize. Jan
Selen and Benoit won 2nd for their fine piece about a boy trying to
dissuade his sweetie from joining a nunnery. Kim and Angerande from
Belgium won first for their depiction of two mummies about to have
"tea" as the clock strikes midnight. Marjon and Lars from
Holland were proud recipients of the Artists' Choice trophy for their
finely stylized male and female figures. |
