European Projects Antwerp, Belgium, 2004 |
|
| In November 2004, we were lucky to be included as part of the crew who built a snow and ice show based on the paintings of Rubens. The show was held in Rubens' hometown of Antwerp, Belgium, and was quite an inspiration to all the artists who worked on it. | |

Cherubs and Ribbons The cherub archway, shown here and in the photo below, was made from almost 10 tons of ice and measured 14 feet tall and about 16 feet across. The cherub archway was Peter's design. He was helped in the execution by Marlies Bielderman from Holland and Peter Mariman from Belgium.

Abduction Denis had the challenge of carving the intricate Abduction from a shallow block of snow, and truly created a feeling of marble sculpture with his work.

Ascension of Mary David first carved an 11-foot tall Eve from ice, then followed it up with Ascension of Mary, a flowing, ethereal piece which was the finale of the show.

Adoration of the Shepherds The Adoration of the Shepherds was a rich subject for Peter, and that was what inspired him to do the Cherub gate. It was a treat to work with a group of Russian carvers, along with a group of our old friends. The new thing was the team of Chinese sculptors who did most of the architectural pieces for this show. I believe the show was a success, and we should look forward to another visit to Antwerp in late 2005.
